If you are like most moms of school age kids, the summer is always a hectic time, albeit an enjoyable one. While mom is finally able to take a break from those harried mornings, late night homework sessions and last minute projects that are so common during the school year, finding time to focus on one self becomes difficult. That’s because during the summer months, it is necessary to prepare three square meals and countless snacks (if mom stays at home). Entertaining the “troops” is also a mommy duty. Though the first few weeks of the school year tend to be a bit hectic, the rest of the year is actually a great time for moms. They have the opportunity to take a little time for themselves. If the summer months haven’t been kind to the waistline, now is the time for them to refocus, lose weight and get in shape. There are numerous ways that moms can accomplish this. We will review of few of them below.
Make Your Own Lunch: Mothers are highly skilled in the art of preparing school lunches but not as great at making one for themselves. Often times, moms are so busy taking care of everyone else that they neglect themselves. As a result, it becomes second nature to simply grab whatever is available. Too often this consists of unhealthy and fattening foods. Good, healthy eating requires planning. While making the kids lunch, mom should consider preparing her own and perhaps even a few snacks. Yummy vegetables, fruit, lean proteins and whole grains are best. This will make it a lot easier to eat right when hunger arises.
Go for a morning or afternoon stroll or jog: Getting in a nice brisk morning walk or afternoon jog becomes much easier when there is no one else to take care of. Being active on a regular basis also helps to control the waistline and shed a few of those extra pounds that have cropped up over the last few months (or years).
Grab some light weights: Weight training is one of the best ways to get toned and also to rev up your metabolism. This is because muscle burns more calories than fat. Building muscle, while burning fat, is one of the best ways to get the body that many women desire.
Rest & Relax: Stress isn’t beneficial for anyone. In today’s world, moms are overtaxed and stressed out. This makes losing weight much more difficult. Stress-related hormones keep the belly round and emotional eating keeps many women from their ideal weight. Take some time each day to relax and recharge. Doing so is great for both the mind and the body.
Now that the school year has started once again, many moms find themselves with a little more time. For those interested in losing weight and transforming their bodies from drab to fab, the timing couldn’t be better. Preparing healthy meals and snacks for oneself, staying active and relaxing a bit, are all great ways to lose weight, tone up and turn back the clock!
