Consciousness starts with your diet. Lets talk about diets for a moment. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word diet? Restrictions? Hunger? Weight loss? There are many negative connotations with it, as it has become the buzz word that society likes to use. What if the word diet was replaced with the word lifestyle? The word lifestyle may change the images in your head, as it becomes more personal. A lifestyle describes the way we interact with our environment, the reason we get up in the morning, our routines, and our relationships.
For a moment lets key in on the word relationships. Relationships not only describe the way we interact with people but our interactions with everything in our lives, including food and what we eat. Now, in present-day there are many so-called experts telling us what we should and should not be eating for whatever reasons. Complicating things even more, a lot of the information we’ve been given contradicts itself.
So where does one begin when they want to make major life changes when it comes to food? How about we take a look at history for a moment? Our ancestors didn’t have leading health experts to tell them what to eat and what not to eat. They also didn’t have market places with shelves and shelves of processed drinks, snacks, and boxed and packaged foods! It’s kind of scary if you really think about it. However, getting back to the discussion about our ancestors, they lived off of their land. They had a relationship with their food from the roots in the soil, to the food in their mouth.
Now if we could get back to that way of life or at least that mindset, maybe we would see some changes in our relationship to food. Perhaps, that exchange of nurture to nurture could influence our perspective on the way we treat our bodies and feed our families. Anyway, that’s just some food for thought!
